Can Rusted Ridge Vent Fasteners Let Water Into My Roof?
July 17, 2026
When most homeowners think about roof leaks, they usually picture missing shingles or storm damage. However, one of the most common places where water can sneak into a roof is much smaller—and often goes unnoticed. Rusted fasteners holding the ridge vent in place can slowly create openings that allow rainwater to enter the roof system.
During this project, Anchor Point Roofing identified multiple rusted fasteners along the existing ridge vent on the main roof. While these fasteners may seem like a minor issue, rust can weaken the seal around each screw, making it easier for water to work its way beneath the roof surface over time.
To prevent water intrusion, the team carefully inspected the entire ridge vent and applied a commercial-grade roofing sealant over every rusted fastener along the full ridge section. This created a watertight barrier designed to keep moisture out while extending the life of the existing roof.
Although rusted fasteners may seem like a minor issue, addressing them early helps protect the attic, roof decking, and interior of the home from water damage. That’s why at Anchor Point Roofing, we take pride in providing quality preventive roof repairs that help avoid bigger problems down the road. Our attention to detail reflects the high standards we uphold as a trusted roofing company committed to long-lasting roofing solutions.
